St. Nicholas Community Development Centre*

Good Samaritian Primary School

in the Diocese of All Saints' Cathedral, Nairobi, Kenya

All Saints' - through our birthday offering and our youth group - have sponsored two boys who are brothers, for room and board and school tuition.  The older brother's name is Gabriel and we sponsored him for one year, and just recently the youth group sponsored his younger brother, James for the remaining half of this year.

James and Gabriel

Gabriel is 11 years old and in the second grade, James is 6 years old.  He and his brother were orphaned when their mother died of AIDS and they were left at St. Nicholas' by an uncle.

We would like someone who would be a "pen pal" to Gabriel and James so we can learn more about them and their lives at St. Nicholas' Centre.  If you are interested in this, contact Fr. Ed.

St. Nicholas Community Development Centre is a children-focused Christian Centre and a project of the Anglican Church in Kenya.

The Centre was established in 1986 by a group of mothers with the aim of rescuing and providing care to abandoned, rejected, abused, and orphaned children.  The number of children who need special care and protection continues to grow and there is a waiting list for children to be accepted by the Centre.  The number of illness and death caused by HIV/AIDS is the largest contributing factor to the large number of children who are without parents and family.

The Centre currently supports over 120 children among whom 80% are affected by HIV/AIDS.  The rest of the children come from the poorest of the poor and often parents are alcoholic, drug abusers, prostitutes, or in prison.

The Centre also provides support to community children for education, health, counselling and guidance, and spiritual nourishment.

Good Samaritan Primary School is on the grounds of the Centre.
